ATTO Technology has been drawing the attention of both the Mac® and VMware® communities lately and we’d like to share with everyone what’s going on.

One of our engineers, Eric Garrison, tested the viability of virtualizing the Apple Mac Pro® using ATTO hardware, eventually writing a blog about it. Mac Pros do not have PCIe slots and therefore the only expansion available is via their Thunderbolt™ ports.

Using Eric’s work, ATTO came up with a guide that makes it easy to virtualize the Apple Mac Pro or any microserver with a Thunderbolt connection. All that is required is an ATTO ThunderLink® Thunderbolt enabled device using ATTO VMware Ready™ certified ESXi drivers.

This drew attention at VMworld last year, attracting industry media attention, ramped up with the announcement that ATTO ThunderLink® 3128 is certified VMware Ready, and recently when we shared the solution with VMware partners during a vmLIVE session.

Visit the solution page on our website for complete details, including a new step-by-step User Guide that goes through the process of virtualizing a Mac.
