Partner Spotlight: Apple
Apple® and ATTO share a similar origin story. For each, the companies were started by a duo with a vision who took a chance and started building products in their homes. Both quickly achieved success with innovations in their respective areas of expertise.
Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak founded Apple Computers, Inc. in 1976. They built the first Apple computers in Wozniak’s garage. Approximately 200 of those were sold before Jobs and Wozniak released the Apple II, which, with its color graphics, revolutionized the computer industry. The introduction of the Macintosh® in 1984 heralded the beginning of a new era in digital content creation with its blend of performance and features. Soon came third party design and video editing applications and, with those, the inevitable need for additional, fast storage, which is where ATTO Technology enters the story.
ATTO has been creating storage connectivity solutions for the Mac® market for nearly three decades. Over this time, ATTO has developed products for the Mac that helped to drive the revolution in digital content creation, which is still happening today, providing Fibre Channel (FC), Ethernet, RAID and SAS/SATA connectivity solutions for Mac platforms. Our history of testing and developing for Macs provides a unique experience that allows us to optimize performance and throughput specifically for Mac environments.
The developer relationship with Apple enabled ATTO to be first to market with compatible macOS® drivers for Fibre Channel HBAs, SAS/SATA HBAs, and Ethernet NICs (our ATTO Celerity™, ATTO ExpressSAS® HBAs and ATTO FastFrame™ NICs respectively). As a pioneer in Thunderbolt™ enabled solutions, ATTO has worked closely with Apple to provide connectivity to high-performance FC and SAS/SATA storage, along with Ethernet networks using the diverse line of ATTO Thunderbolt ThunderLink® products. Additionally, ATTO Xtend SAN iSCSI Initiator for Mac systems enables macOS users to have a reliable and highly interoperable connection to any iSCSI storage.
Today, Apple continues to lead the world in innovation with the Mac Pro®, MacBook Pro®, Mac mini®, iMac® and iMac Pro® lines. Apple’s macOS provides seamless experiences across all Mac platforms and empower content creators with breakthrough performance, features and services. The newly revealed Mac Pro pushes the technology envelope and gives creative professionals a powerful platform that can help them develop next-generation content.
ATTO has the broadest portfolio of Mac ready adapters, and supports the new Apple Mac Pro and macOS Catalina with Thunderbolt™, Ethernet, Fibre Channel and SAS/SATA connectivity. ATTO adapter hardware and drivers offer future-proof compatibility, being compatible now with the Mac platform as Apple indicated during WWDC 2019.
ATTO is proud to be a long-standing member of the Apple developer community. As such, we have a deep understanding of Apple hardware and a keen insight into how to design products optimized for Apple hardware as well as macOS. Apple customers have relied upon ATTO to meet and exceed their needs with our trusted solutions and we look forward to continuing that standard long into the future!
