Partner Spotlight – Quantum

Quantum Corporation provides data storage solutions and services that cover the entire data lifecycle.  Quantum products and services include high-performance shared storage systems, parallel file systems, tape backup and archive systems, storage management and data management software.

The San Jose, California, company was founded in 1980 and through the turn of the millennium was a major manufacturer of hard disk storage.  Quantum sold its hard drive division to Maxtor in 2001, which coincided with a series of tape technology acquisitions by Quantum starting in the late 1990s.  After the sale to Maxtor, their focus turned solely to integrated storage solutions.

Today, Quantum is known for its products that help capture, create and share digital content and large datasets, and their innovative backup, recovery and archiving solutions.  Like ATTO Technology, Quantum’s expertise and specialization have made them the de facto standard in industries that process immense amounts of data, like the media and entertainment industry and government.

Quantum and ATTO officially announced a strategic OEM partnership in February 2000, and then jointly announced the availability of the Quantum|ATL Prism Fibre Channel to SCSI bridge in August of that year.  Further joint products would follow, with a next-generation Prism solution included in Quantum|ATL M-Series and P-Series libraries announced in 2001, and another generation Prism in 2003.

Since those early days, Quantum and ATTO have worked closely together to provide integrated solutions.  The de facto standard clustered file system in the media and entertainment industry,  Quantum’s StorNext® platform, is a combination of a high-speed parallel file system and advanced data management software devised to handle massive volumes of unstructured data.  ATTO Celerity™ Fibre Channel HBAs and ATTO ThunderLink® Thunderbolt adapters are tested by Quantum for compatibility with StorNext and Quantum Xcellis™ high-performance shared storage.

Additionally, Quantum qualifies ATTO Celerity Fibre Channel HBAs and ATTO ThunderLink Thunderbolt adapters for use with their Quantum QXS hybrid storage systems and their new F2000 highly available NVMe storage arrays.  ATTO ExpressSAS® HBAs are bundled as the host SAS interface for Quantum SuperLoader® tape drives shipped today.
