Partner Spotlight: Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE)
In 1939 college friends Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard started a company in a garage in Palo Alto, California. They named their company Hewlett-Packard, the order of their last names determined by the draw of a straw. The garage is today considered the birthplace of Silicon Valley, a California State Historical Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Hewlett-Packard began by making oscillators for tests and measurements, some of the earliest of which were used by Disney in the production of 1939 animated film Fantasia. During World War II they made counter-radar technology and artillery shell proximity fuses.
Among the notable developments by Hewlett Packard were the Hewlett-Packard 9100A from 1968, which some consider the first personal computing device, and the first handheld scientific calculator in 1972.
In November 2015 the company Hewlett-Packard was split up, creating what is now HP Inc. for the home PC market and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (also known as HPE) for enterprise products and services.
